In this paper, the chemical constituents of two medicinal plants in Yunnan province Trigonostemon lii and Psychotria prainii were phytochemically studied,and 31 compounds, including 1 new compound, were isolated and identified.By solvent extraction, normal phase silica gel column chromatography, RP-18 column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and so on, 4alkaliods were isolated from Trigonostemon lii and their structures were elucidated by various spectra(1H-NMR,13C-NMR,1H-1H COSY, HSQC, HMBC and MS),including carboline alkaloids and indole alkaloid. Their structures were elucidated by various spectra to be as 1-(7-methoxy-quinolinyl-4’-yl)-3,4-dihydro-β-carboline(1),trigonostemonine C(2), trigonostemonine D(3), trigonoliimine A(4). Among them,compound 1 was a new carboline alkaloid.From the aerial parts of Psychotria prainii, 27 compounds were isolated and identified, including flavonoids, coumarins, simple aromatic compounds, triterpenes,steroids. Their structures were elucidated by various spectra to be as quercetin(1’),kaempferol(2’), eupafolin(3’), 5,6,7-trihydroxy-4’-methoxyflavone(4’), butin(5’),robtin(6’), butein(7’), umbelliferone(8’), 6,7-dihydroxycoumarin(9’), drummondol(10’), methyl-3,4-dihydroxy-benzoate(11’), 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde(12’),vanillic acid(13’), resorcinol(14’), syringic acid(15’), 1,2,4-trimethoxybenzene(16’), heptacosanoic acid 1-glyceryl ester(17’), 2,3-threo-dihydroxyglutaric acid(18’), α-onocerin(19’), ursolic acid(20’), 19α-hydroxy-3-acetyl-urolic acid(21’),methyl ursolate(22’), oleanolic acid(23’), pomolic acid(24’), β-sitosterol(25’),daucosterol(26’), 7-ketositosterol(27’). 2’-4’, 6’, 7’, 9’, 11’, 12’, 16’-19’, 21’-23’, 27’were firstly isolated from the genus, others were firstly isolated from the plant.At last, chemical compositions and pharmacological studies of Psychotria were reviewed, including 159 chemical constituents and their names, plant resources and biological activities.
