Objective: To explore and analyse the feasibility and efficiency of novel ultrasonic bone curette on intervertebral foraminoplasty. Methods: One cadaveric spine(age:61 years old; height: 171cm) was dissected, which was established as a model of lumbar intervertebral foramen osteal sternosis. Two graded intervertebral foraminoplasty were performed for different segments(L1-2,L2-3,L3-4,L4-5,L5-S1)using the novel ultrasonic bone curette in vitro. Accumulated working time was recorded and preoperative and postoperative middle foraminal width was measured with vernier caliper. The efficiency of two graded intervertebral foraminoplasty was calculated and analysed by SPSS19.0.Results: The sagittal distance of removed superior articular process and working time were less on the first graded foraminoplasty than the second graded foraminoplasty(4.55±1.26 mm,18.11±6.43 min vs 6.62±0.93 mm,27.99±8.57), the difference of which was significant.(P<0.01)There was no significant difference on working efficiency(0.27±0.69 mm/min vs 0.25±0.71 mm/min) between two procedures.(P>0.05)Conclusion: Two graded intervertebral foraminoplasty was able to be achieved using the novel ultrasonic bone curette. And there was no significant difference on working efficiency between two procedures.
