Objective:To set up and evaluate the application of clinical nursing pathways (CNP) about health education (HE) in patients with sellar tumors.Methods:1 We set up the CNP about HE in patients with sellar tumors which was based on literature of evidence-based, chart review, and assessment of the patients’ demand. At the same time, we consult the comments and suggestions of the professors, the clinical staff, and the patients to revise the text, and form the CNP eventually.2 The patients with sellar tumors were selected to the survey. With the randomized method, the patients were divided into test and control groups. The test group of patients were received the HE with the CNP, while the control group of patients were received the HE with the routine at the model of holistic care. By comparing health education awareness, anxiety and depression, the intensity of pain, patients’ satisfaction and hospital days, we evaluate the effects of the CNP about HE in patients with sellar tumors. The data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0.Results:1 We had constructed the CNP about HE in patients with sellar tumors, which was designed to be content-time matrix, and the nursers should play " √ " in the "□", whici was in front of the performed content, indicate the implementation date and sign.2 The effects of application of the CNP about HE in patients with sellar tumors(1) There were no statistically significant differences in gender, age, education, payment methods between the test group and the control group (p>0.05).(2) There were no statistically significant differences in gender, age, education, payment methods between the patients received the HE needs’survey and the application research (p> 0.05). It described that the demand of the patients received the HE needs’survey can represent all the patients.(3) The score for health education awareness of the test group was (22.78±4.87), and that of the control group was (17.45±5.09). Compared health education awareness, Patients in the CNP group accepted the health knowledge better than that of the control group and it showed a significant difference (p<0.05).(4) There were 11 cases without anxiety and 18 cases without depression in the test group, while there were 6 cases without anxiety and 6 cases without depression in the control group. Compared the patients’anxiety and depression, Patients in the CNP group had a low occur-rate than in the control group (p<0.05).(5) The means and standard deviations were (1.51±1.36), (0.53±0.71), (0.73±0.74), (1.72±1.03), (0.72±0.78), (0.32±0.47) in pain at the time of admission, the day before surgery, within 6 hours after the surgery, the second day after surgery, the seventh day after surgery, and discharge about the patients in the test group. While the scores of the patients in the control group were (1.43±1.30), (0.79±0.90), (0.84±0.80), (2.11±0.89), (1.23±0.86), (0.49±0.55) at the same times. Compared pain intensity, no significant differences were found between two groups at the time of admission and within 6 hours after the surgery (p> 0.05). In contrast, there were statistically significant differences between the two groups at the time of the day before surgery, the second day after surgery, the seventh day after surgery, and discharge (p<0.05). It showed that the patients in the test group were less pain than those in the control group.(6) For nursing satisfaction, statistically significant differences was found between the test group receiving CNP and the control. The means and standard deviations were (4.31±0.74), (3.81±0.76), (3.10±0.82) about the timing, the contest and the expression of HE in the test group. However, the means and standard deviations were (3.90±0.85), (3.39±0.82), (2.81±.77) about the timing, the contest and the expression of HE in the control group. The differences were statistically significant (p<0.05).(7) The total hospital days of the test group was 11 while that of the control group was 13. Compared the days of hospitalization, there was a significant difference (p< 0.05).(8) The variation incidence of this study was 1.24%, which had no affection to the text.Conclusions:(1) The CNP about HE for the patients with sellar tumors was proved to be effective, rigorous, and scientific.(2) The clinical trial demonstrates that CNP about HE for the patients with sellar tumors was helpful to enhance the awareness of health knowledge and the patients’ degree of satisfaction about HE, and reduce the incidence rates of anxiety and depression, and duration of hospital stays. The text is practical and feasible.
