ObjectivesAnalyze hypertension-related KAP (Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice) of hypertension patients among employed population, as well as awareness, treatment, control of hypertension and their characteristics. Quantitatively analyze the relationship between hypertension-related knowledge, attitude, and practice, as well as the impact of KAP on awareness, treatment and control of hypertension, which can provide reference to raise hypertension awareness, treatment and control rates, and improve the effect of standardized management for hypertension patients among employed population.MethodsBy literature analyzing, collect relevant literatures about KAP theory, SEM (structural equation modeling) and awareness, treatment, control of hypertension and their influencing factors. Based on the existing data, select hypertension patients among employed population from 10 provinces 35 workplaces as the objects of this study, by statistical description and statistical inference, analyze the basic information of the objects in this study, and their hypertension-related knowledge, attitude, practice, as well as awareness, treatment, control of hypertension and their characteristics. Using SEM, quantitatively analyze the relationship between hypertension-related knowledge, attitude and practice, and further analyze the impact of related KAP on awareness, treatment and control of hypertension.ResultsThere were a total of 5861 hypertension patients included in this study. The awareness, treatment and control rates of hypertension respectively were 59.5%,32.0% and 11.0%.According to the SEM of the relationship between hypertension-related knowledge, attitude and practice, knowledge had direct effect on attitude, the impact coefficient was 0.84; attitude had direct impact on practice, the impact coefficient was 0.38; knowledge showed indirect influence on practice, the impact coefficient was 0.32.According to the SEM of the relationship between hypertension-related KAP and awareness, treatment, control, knowledge had direct effect on the overall status of awareness, treatment and control, the impact coefficient was 0.12; practice had direct impact on the overall status of awareness, treatment and control, the impact coefficient was 0.07; attitude showed indirect influence on the overall status of awareness, treatment and control, the impact coefficient was 0.03. The impact coefficient of knowledge to awareness was 0.11, the impact coefficient of knowledge to treatment was 0.06, the impact coefficient of knowledge to control was 0.07; the impact coefficient of practice to awareness was 0.06, the impact coefficient of practice to treatment was 0.04, the impact coefficient of practice to control was 0.04.ConclusionsThe results showed that the hypertension-related knowledge have a significant impact on attitude. The hypertension patients knowing the hypertension-related knowledge can significantly improve their attitude to self-healthcare and self-mangement.Hypertension-related knowledge and attitude showed a slight effect on practice, there are other factors that have impact on practice and determine hypertension patients’ practice. Therefore, it is important to take some comprehensive or targeted intervention measures on the norms of hypertension patients. On the other hand, this reflected that KAP theory may have some limitations in health practice interventions in some degree.Hypertension-related knowledge, attitude and practice had relatively slight impact on hypertension awareness, treatment and control. For one reason, there may be many other factors affecting awareness, treatment and control of hypertension. On the other side, it may be associated with the limitations of structural equation built in this study.
