Objective:To explore the oral health status of 3-5 year-old Uygur and Han children in Yining, Xinjiang Province, and to put forward the corresponding counter measures. Methods:For this cross-sectional study, a multiple stratified and cluster randomized sampling method was used to select 965 3-5 year-old preschoolers from urban and rural districts in Yining, Xinjiang Province. Completed the oral health examination and the questionnaire,a total of 834 children with a response rate of 86.42%. The diagnosis of black stain or dental caries was based on the oral health diagnostic criteria defined by the World Health Organization. The survey included questions concerning the children’s feeding and eating habits, dental hygiene related behaviors, and systemic diseases of their children. The results were analyzed using SPSS 21.0software. Results:The prevalence of dental caries all samples was 81.24%, the mean dmft score was 4.44±3.84,the filling rate was 1.66%.The prevalence of dental caries, filling rate and mean dmft increased gradually as the children were growing up( P<0.05).Maxillary deciduous central incisors and mandibular deciduous molar were most prone to decay. The Uygur and Han, urban and rural districts and different age period of oral hygiene status and malocclusion level were statistically significant. The rate of black tooth stain was 19.42 %.There was significant difference between nationality and regional population, but no significant difference between male and female children. The caries prevalence of children with black stain was 18.16%, significantly lower than the children without black stain was 81.84%. Factors for black stain were nationality, regional population, the age when they started to brush, tooth brushing frequency, the frequency of drinking carbonated drinks, and history of high fever, diarrhea or diarrhea. Conclusion: There was a negative relation between black stain and caries.3-5 year-old preschool children oral health status is not optimistic in Yining, Xinjiang Province.It’s urgen to rectify this situation by taking integrated treatment and preventive programs.
