ObjectiveTo study the expression of serum mi R-214 in female breast cancer patients, and evaluate the potential clinical significance of serum mi R-214 for breast cancer.MethodsThe total RNA were extracted from serum samples in 35 patients with preoperative breast cancer, 25 patients with postoperative breast cancer, 25 patients with benign tumors and 25 healthy women, respectively. Real-time PCR was used to detect the relative expression of serum mi R-214. The difference expression of serum mi R-214 in each group was compared, and the relationship between the differential expression of mi R-214 and clinical pathological parameters in breast cancer was also evaluated.Results1. The expression level of mi R-214 in patients with preoperative breast cancer was significantly higher than that in patients with postoperative breast cancer(Z=-3.40, p=0.001), patients with benign tumor(Z=-2.33, p=0.02), and healthy women(Z=-4.72, p=0.000), respectively.2. Serum mi R-214 could be used to distinguish breast cancer patients from healthy women. Serum mi R-214 in preoperative samples could discriminate malignant from healthy controls with the area under curve ROC analysis was 0.847(95%CI: 0.744-0.950),cut off is 4.42 and the sensitivity and specificity were 97.1% and 96.0%, respectively.3. The results of the comparison between serum mi R-214 expression and clinical pathological parameter of breast cancer showed that increased expression of mi R-214 was associated with the lymphatic metastasis in breast cancer patients(Z=-2.05, P=0.04).ConclusionThe expression of serum mi R-214 is up-regulated in breast cancer, and maybe it could be a auxiliary marker of lymphatic metastasis in breast cancer patients.
