To Investigate The Short And Long Term Efficacy Of The Acupuncture Combined With The Artificial Tears On Dry Eye

Objective:To investigate the short and long term efficacy of the acupuncture combined with the artificial tears on dry eye.Methods:We collect 111 cases who are in line with the conditions, according to the wishes of the patients they are divided into treatment and control groups, the treatment group (55 cases) is received the therapy of the acupuncture plus artificial tears, the control group(56 cases) is only for artificial tears. During the time of the treatment and follow-up, we observe and record the efficacy, corneal staining, tear film break-up time and the tear secretion in strict standards. Finally, we statistics and analyze these data and compare the clinical efficacy of the two groups.Results:Observation of the short term efficacy, after treating for one month, in the treatment group,5 cases are markedly effective,41 cases are effective and 9 cases are invalid, the total effective rate is 83.64%;in the control group,3 cases are markedly effective,27 cases are effective and 26 cases are invalid, the total effective rate is 53.57%,the difference on the overall efficiency of the two groups is statistically significant (P<0.01),showing that the short term efficacy of acupuncture combined with artificial tears is superior than efficacy of artificial tears.Observation of the long term efficacy:After stopping the treatment for 6 months, the total effective rate of the treatment group is 60.00%, although the total effective rate of the treatment group decreases gradually over the time, it is still higher than the total effective rate of the control group after stopping the treatment for one month, showing that acupuncture combined with artificial tears has some continuing role.On improving the symptom scores, corneal staining, tear film break-up time and the tear secretion, the treatment group is better than the control group, and the treatment group has a duration of action, especially in terms of improving the corneal staining. With the treatment is stopped, the effect on improving the symptom scores, tear film break-up time and the tear secretion of the treatment group gradually gets weakened, but they are better than the treatment of before. And we find the improvement of symptoms of stopping treatment for 6 months is similar to the treatment for two weeks, the improvement of the tear film break-up time of stopping treatment for 6 months is similar to the treatment for the two or three weeks, the improvement of the tear secretion begins to decline significantly after stopping treatment for 3 months.Conclusions:The efficacy of the acupuncture combined with the artificial tears for dry eye is better than artificial tears, and the acupuncture combined with the artificial tears for dry eye has some continuing role, it means acupuncture combined with the artificial tears for dry eye has an accurate short-term efficacy, also the long-term effect is considerable.
