Abstract/Summary:
Objective:The Clinical manifestations of Parkinson’s disease (PD) include motor symptoms and non-motor symptoms (NMS). NMS affecting the quality of patients’life seriously, scholars has been paid more attention to NMS in recent years. However, Western medicine displays indefinite curative effect for NMS of PD, while Chinese medicine shows a certain effect to improve NMS due to its multi-channel and multi-target onset way probably, Wenshenyanggan decoction is summarized from the long time clinical experience for PD, which displays a certain effect in initially clinical observation, especially for relieving NMS, improving the patients’living quality and slowing the progression of the disease. In order to explore the clinical efficacy of wenshenyanggan decoction, the research observed clinical effects of the decoction on NMS from clinical study, which designed as a randomized controlled clinical trial. The program provides a theoretical basis of the decoction to promote its clinical application.Method:60 patients of PD who were outpatients or inpatients of Neurology Department, Nanjing Hospital of TCM from October.2013 to December.2014, were divided into two group: 30 in the treatment group (treated by both wenshenyanggan decoction and western medicine) and 30 in the control group (treated only by western medicine). A course of treatment for both groups is 4 weeks, observing non-motor symptoms score scale (NMSS) and Parkinson’s disease questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39) score for efficacy evaluation. All data employ statistical software SPSS20.0 for statistical analysis. Conclusions:The differences between two groups in gender, age, duration of illness have no statistically significant (P>0.05). NMSS scores before and after treatment showed 80.0% progress rate in treatment group, comparing to the control group (P<0.01), which indicated wenshenyanggan decoction improved NMS significantly. In terms of improving the quality of life, the data showed PDQ-39 score decreased by 14 points in treatment group, while the control group decreased by 1.63 points, indicating wenshenyanggan decoction significantly improve the living quality of PD patients. However, the treatment group displayed no advantages to the control group on changing motor symptoms. Although the treatment group UPDRS scores declined, there was no statistically significant difference when compared with the control group.
