Ceramage Polymer Ceramics Reparing Dental Defects After The Clinical Efficacy Of The Year

Objective:To evaluate the clinical effects of the application of Ceramage polymerization ceramic onlay and polygon surface inlay on repairing large defects of the tooth after the premolar and molar root canal therapy.Method: Choose 54 teeth from 52 patients(32 females and 20 males)who were given root canal therapy in the Department of Stomatology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University from March to December in 2013. Carry out the Ceramage polymerization ceramic onlay and polygon surface inlay repair and cement the inlay with dual curable self-etching resin cement(G-CEM CAPSULE,GC company,Japan) based on the principle of inlay preparation and then,follow these patients up right after the therapy for a whole year. The evaluation criteria shall be in accordance with the standard criteria of the USPHS(United States Public Health Service)and shall be divided into three levels(A, B and C) depending on the evaluation results. The clinical effects of the inlay shall be assessed by two clinicians mainly on the restoration retention,surface wear intensity,marginal adaptation,degree of marginal coloration,color matching of the restoration,secondary caries rate,the gingiva state and the interproximal contact.Results: After checking the restoration retention, marginal adaptation, interproximal contact and color matching of the restoration, we learn that the repair level of 44 polymerization ceramic inlays have achieved level A after the try-in according to the evaluation criteria. The other 10 restorations have achieved level B due to their small color difference with the normal teeth with a color matching degree of 81%. One year later, the follow up rate is 95% with 3 failures. The results show that the all of the rest 51 restorations have achieved a repairing effect of level A on five aspects in that they are smooth on visual and probe examination; they are smooth in marginal area and showed a great marginal adaptation; there are no secondary caries; there is no mobility between the restorations and teeth and that there is no tooth fracture on them. Besides, 48 of the restorations are not colored on the margin, with repairing effect reaching level A and the other 3 have been colored slightly, with repairing effect reaching level B. On the color matching evaluation, 42 of them show the same color with the adjacent teeth, with repairing effect reaching level A and the other 9 restorations’ repairing effect reaches level B by showing a slight difference in colors. On approximal point and gingiva state examination, 48 of them have showed a normal approximal point and a good gingiva state, with repairing effect reaching level A, while there is a little food impaction between the other 3 restorations and the adjacent teeth which can be eliminated by floss and the gingiva showed a subtle swollen,with repairing effect reaching level B.Conclusion: The application of Ceramage polymerization ceramic onlay and polygon surface inlay is feasible and practical on repairing large defects of the tooth after the molar root canal therapy.
