Purpose:Using pressable Empress II porcelain as porcelain inlay/onlay material is more and more popular. The purpose of this study is to discuss and evaluate the clinical performance of these inlay/onlay restorations used as a cavity filling material.Material and Method:36 posterior teeth from 28 patients were collected at "Smile Design Dental Clinic". Empress II was chosen to be the restorative material. Cavity preparations were done using fine-diamond shoulder burs and took impression with polyvinylsiloxane (PVS, Imprint II,3M Minnesota). Pick Vita 3D master shade guide as our shade matching reference. Inlay/onlays were cemented with Variolink II resin cement. X-rays were taken to verify the marginal fitness and total cement removal. Recall of patient for intraoral and X-ray check at 6 months and 12 months period.Result:After the 12 months short tern clinical trial,2 inlays were found to be fractured within 12 months. Parameters were carefully examined according to the modified Rygel chart. Most of the restoration outcomes were rated "A" at either restoration integrity, marginal fitness, gingival health, or shade satisfaction. Conclusion:The clinical result of Empress II inlay/onlay after 12 months of use at posterior region, could meet our standards and satisfaction. So the material is one of the choices in cavity filling restorations.
