BackgroundEstablishing a General Practitioner (GP) system is serious content of reforming the drug and medical management, and a primary task to accelerate the development of medical and health system. So establishing a GP system is of vital importance to ensuring and improving the health of urban and rural residents. GPs are committed to providing comprehensive health services, before that, a residency training task is needed. GPs’ satisfaction of training system and current working status of satisfaction are closely related with health management ability, work efficiency, job turnover rate, and patients’ satisfaction. Now the general practitioners who completed the residency training is insufficient quantities to satisfy social demand. The essential of developing Family Medicine is worth the social great concern. At present, the retrospective survey on the satisfaction of GPs’ residency training system and the working conditions through the mind of GPs themselves are less.ObjectivesGeneral Practitioner (GP) Residency Training has been piloted for fifteen years in China, and an annual growth of the number of residents participating in health management works has been observed. This paper is to explore the suitable model for Family Medicine Development in China by surveying the residents’ evaluation of the training system and service conditions after the training. MethodsChina. By self-designed questionnaire, we made a whole sampling from all residents who participated in Zhejiang Provincial Family Medicine Residency Training between2000-2014, which covered the residents’satisfaction and complete evaluation of theory training, hospital rotation, community clinic rotation, etc. At the same time, the satisfaction with their current situation after the training (e.g. work status, economic situation) were also surveyed.ResultsResidents’ satisfaction with the processes of theoretic training, hospital rotation, community clinic rotation and total evaluation of GP Residency Training was71.4%,68.3%65%, and71.7%, respectively. However, on the master degree application and economy treatment in training, it declined dramatically to41%and38.7%, respectively. The residents’satisfaction survey on their service conditions after training showed that the satisfaction on their work position and overall status reached56.3%and53.1%, respectively, while it was only42.8%and42.1%on their workload and economical revenue, respectively.Conclusion(1) In the past fifteen years of the GP Residency Training,70%of the graduate residents have been satisfied with the main processes of the training, while only40%of them were satisfied with supportive conditions, such as master degree application and economy income level in training.(2) The statistic analysis of satisfaction showed that half of the residents were satisfied with their job, but only40%of them were pleased with their working reward.(3) The next steps for Family Medicine Development in China should be focused on merging the GP Residency Training with master degree application, thus increasing the residents’ economy support in and after training, and strengthening the hospital-community cooperation relationship.
