Objectives:The aim of the study is to analyze the current status of the new standard residency training, to know residents’ satisfaction in the implementation of the training system, to find out the possible problems and influential factors, and further to discuss feasible suggestions, countermeasures and implication for further improvement of the new standard residency training system. Methods:Selecting the173residents attending the new standard residency training in the years2011-2013as sample, an implementation situation questionnaire was developed and validated. Meanwhile, a number of management personnel, clinical department directors and residents of the training base were interviewed about current status of standard residency training. SPSS17.0was used for data analysis. Factor analysis and Cronbach’s a were used to examine the scale reliability and validity of the satisfaction scale; variance analysis, multiple linear regression analysis method and qualitative data analysis were used to describe the status and relevant factors of the new standard residency training.Main Results:1.Evaluation of the scale:By using exploratory factor analysis, three common factors were extracted, explained75.11%of the total variability, and the fitting effect of the3factor model is ideal. The three dimensions can be summarized as "organization and management factors, clinical teachers’factors, and incentive and guarantee factor"; Cronbach’s a coefficient0.873, the scale has good reliability and validity.2.Satisfaction and its influencing factors:the residents’satisfaction in the new standard residency training scores "3.59", which means "fair" in Likert’s five rating scale and significantly differentiates from score "4" indicating "satisfaction"; The differences in satisfaction scores among subgroups such as training period, start time, age and average monthly income were significant in the new standard residency training.3. Qualitative interviews showed that, both resident physicians and clinical departments lacked of deep understanding of the training system; motivaton was incomplete; the communication and feedback mechanism was not sound; rotation department examination was not standardized; the teachers also needed systematic training; the resident has limited chance to practice clinical skills. Conclusions and suggestions:The residents’ satisfaction on the new standard residency training is fair to good in general. Resident satisfaction includes organization and management on the clinical rotations, clinical guide teaching, and guarantee and motivation measures. The influence factors are some individual characteristics including training period, start time, age, and average monthly income. Based on qualitative and quantitative results, some countermeasure were presented including motivation policy, dynamic communication feedback, practice environment, and advocacy among both residents and the clinical departments, to promote the development of the standard residency training system.
