Objective:To study the correlation between serum sclerostin levels and coronary heart disease, and investigate the effects of statins on serum sclerostin levels in patients with coronary heart disease which may suggest the new potential therapeutic targets for coronary heart disease.Methods:41patients who underwent coronary angiography in the Sir Run Run Show Hospital were selected and the general datas(age, gender, etc) and laboratory results were colledted. The preoperative fasting serum samples were collected and the serum sclerostin levels were determined by ELISA. According to the results of coronary angiography, patients were divided into CHD group (22cases) and non-CHD group (19cases). According to the WHO diagnosis standard, the patients in CHD groups were then divided into diabetes sub-group (n=9) and non-diabetes sub-group (n=13). The difference of the level of serum sclerostin was compared between these groups. All of patients with CHD were given20mg Rosuvastatin1time per night, and the serum sclerostin levels were retested after one month. The difference of the levels of serum sclerostin before and after taking Rosuvastain was compared. SPSS18.0was used for data entry and analysis, and chi-square test and t-test was used to compare the diffence of the levels of serum sclerostin between two groups and the effects of Rosuvastatin on the levels of serum sclerostin. Results:Levels of Serum sclerostin in patients with CHD were significantly higher than non-CHD group (P<0.01) and more higher in diabetes sub-group,but without statistical significance (P>0.05); The concentration of serum sclerostin was increased significantly after taking Rosuvastain (P<0.05). The cholesterol and low density lipoprotein (LDL) were significantly decreased after taking Rosuvastain(P<0.05), while there were no significance in homocysteic acid, triglyceride and high density lipoprotein (HDL)(P>0.05).Conclusions:Levels of Serum sclerostin of patinets with CHD significantly increased, that explains there is positive correlation between the serum sclerostin levels and coronary heart disease possibly. Serum sclerostin may result from bone mineral deposited in blood vessel; level of serum sclerostin could be increased by Rosuvastain’s intervention, and that indicated Rosuvastain tends to reduce the vulnerability of plaque rupture through regulating calcium precipitation.
