Objective: To explore the relationship between serum sclerostin leveland vascular calcification in ESRD patients and to observe the effectclinical factors of sclerostin.Methods:1. A cross-sectional study was performed in100ESRDpatients and100people in controlled group with matched age, data wasdocumented of BMI, Albumin, TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, apo(α), valvecalcification, iPTH, calcitonin, Ca, P, Ca×P, Mg, vascular calcificationscore and serum sclerostin level. Besides, the vascular calcification scorewas quantitively evaluated by MSCT and the sclerostin level was examinedby ELISA.2. Divide the ESRD patients into two groups according to theaverage level of sclerostin and compare the difference of age, sex, prevalence of hypertension and diabetes, TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, theprevalence of cardiac valve calcification, iPTH, calcitonin, Ca, P, Ca×P, Mgand vascular calcification score between the two groups, then analyze the effect clinical factors of sclerostin.3. Divide the ESRD patients into twogroups according to the vascular calcification score and compare thedifference of serum sclerostin level between the two groups.4. All datawere performed using SPSS version19.0, P<0.05was defined statisticalsignificance. Results: The level of average age, the prevalence of hypertension anddiabetes, dialysis age, TC, LDL-C, apo(α), iPTH, Ca, P, Ca×P and vascularcalcification score in the lower sclerostin group is higher than the group ofhigher sclerostin group, but the level of albumin and Mg is lower than thelatter, all with statistically significant difference. Besides the result ofSpearman rank test indicates that the sclerostin level has a negativecorrelation with age, iPTH, P, Ca×P, and vascular calcification, and has apositive correlation with Mg and albumin. The level of serum sclerostin islower in the group of vascular calcification score≥3than the the group ofvascular calcification score<3.Conclusion:1. Vascular calcification in ESRD patients has thecharacteristics of high prevalence and serious degree. Besides, high serumsclerostin level may be related with lower degree of vascular calcification.2. The level of serum sclerostin level in ESRD patient is much higher, and has a negative correlation with age, iPTH level, blood P, Ca×P, andvascular calcification, and this indicates that the sclerostin could be used asan novel marker of bone turnover and vascular calcification in ESRD patients.
