Objective:the aim of this study was to determine the differences of clinical characteristics and prognosis between colorectal cancer(CRC) patients complicated with metabolic syndrome(MS) and CRC patients simply in Xin Jiang. Methods:We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 403 Han and Uighur patients with CRC confirmed pathologically in First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from 2010 to 2012.Survival analysis was performed by Kaplan-Meier method and the comparison between the two groups was performed by Log-rank test,Multivariate analysis by Cox proportional hazard model was used to determine the independent factors of prognosis. Results:The proportion of nation(χ2=4.888,P=0.027), gender(χ2=5.601,P=0.018) and the average age of onset(χ2=8.466,P=0.037) in 135 CRC patients with MS patients was significantly different from that in non-MS patients. Compared with non-MS patients,MS-patients have a higher proportion of tumor invasion depth in T3 and T4(88.9% vs 71.8%,Fisher’s text,P=0.000), lymph node(57.8% vs 42.7%,P=0.004) and organ metastasis(46.7% vs 21.4%,P=0.000). Log-rank test showed that MS-patients had a lower survival rate(P<0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that MS was one of the independent prognostic fators of CRC(RR=0.596,P=0.038).Conclusion:CRC patients with MS have a higher proportion in Uighur and women, older age of onset than in non-MS patients, they are more likely to shift the incidence of local lymph node and organ metastasis.MS is an independent prognostic factor of CRC,and CRC patients with MS have a lower survival rate and poor prognosis.
