Application Of Quality Control Circle In Women’s Oral Health Education During Pregnancy

Objectives We apply quality control circle(QCC) in order to find out the problems of women’s oral health education during pregnancy and explore efficient resolutions for the main possible problems; to evaluate the effects of quality control circle in pregnant women’s oral health education and in upgrading cooperation ability and coordination ability of mutual personal quality of medical staffs.Methods 128 pregnant women who took prenatal examination in Community Health Center from January to June in 2013 were selected, and each of them was accorded with prenatal examination standard as research objects. They are randomly divided into two groups, i.e. control and experimental group. The control group accepted regular oral health inspection and guidance while the experimental group gained special education intervention according to the ten steps of QCC( that is, the theme to choose, the plan of activities to formulate, the current status to grasp, the goal to set, analysis, the strategy to lay down, the strategy to carry out and review, the effect to affirm, standardization and the revision and improvement). It followed the principle of Plan-Do-Check-Action(PDCA), and applied Gantt charts, fishbone diagram, Pareto diagram, radar chart and other activities of techniques and tools of quality control circle to seek efficient methods and ways for oral health education. Self designed questionnaires were used to collect the data, included basic information and oral health-care knowledge, behavior, attitude of the control and experimental groups in baseline and follow-up investigations, respectively. The knowledge of oral health education, attitude and behavior of pregnant women in the experimental group before and after intervention were analyzed, as well as comparing these with the control group. The changes of the qualities of the members in quality control circle were also analyzed in order to evaluate the activity effect.Results(1) In baseline, the awareness rates of oral health education of control and experimental groups were 58.34% and 57.21%, respectively, and there was no statistical difference between the two groups(?2=0.205,P>0.05); while in follow-up survey, the awareness rates of oral health education of control and experimental groups were 59.32% and 84.77%, respectively, and there was a statistical difference between them(?2=1.165,P<0.001). The comparison within the experimental group before and after QCC intervention showed there appeared statistical difference(P<0.001). However,, within the control group no statistical difference was found(P>0.05).(2) In follow-up study, significant differences were found between the experimental and control group, the experimental group displayed better than the control group except in “whether pregnant women can brush teeth”(?2=1.227,P>0.05).(3) In follow-up survey, no statistical differences were found between the experimental and control groups in “the teeth-brushing times”and “whether to receive oral health instruction pre-pregnancy”(P>0.05). However, in all the other oral health behaviors, there were statistical differences between the two groups(P<0.05).(4) After the intervention, the abilities of the QCC members were upgraded in the tactics and use of QCC, teamwork, the brain promotion, communication and coordination development, the activity of confidence, the sense of responsibility, the sense of honor, especially the average score of tactics and usage of QCC and the promotion of brain were increased by 4 and 3.12.Conclusions The activities of quality control circle can upgrade the oral health knowledge awareness rate of the pregnant women and improve their behavior of oral health care. It also plays a promotion role in QQC members’ grow up and help them to raise their personal quality as well.
