Clinical Research On The Effect Of Electro-acupuncture On Easing The Symptoms Of The Menopausal Transition And On The Benign Adjustment Of Sex Hormone

Objective The purpose of this study is to check whether Electro-acupuncture has an improving effect on perimenopause related symptoms and its influence on quality of life for a preliminary knowledge of Electroacupuncture’s effect on perimenopausal patients. It is done by observing the treatment for peri menopausal symptoms and sex hormnone changes in the electro-acupuncture and sham electro-acupuncture.Methods General data selected 30 cases of peri menopausal syndrome diagnosis standard of patients. These cases were from the patients in outpatient department and Yi Tang in No.1 Affiliated Hospital Of Anhui Traditional Chinese Medicine University. 30 patients were randomly divided into electro-acupuncture group(EA group) and sham electro-acupuncture group(sham EA), each group had 15 people. The EA group used Electro-acupuncture by 3 inch and 1.5 inch needles on Guan Yuan, Zi Gong, Tian Shu, San Yin Jiao of double. It lasted 30 minutes when Guan Yuan and Sanyinjiao were acupunctured 3 times. Each time lasted 10 minutes. This treatment was given once every other day, 3 times a week, 4 courses of treatment. It had two courses in total. The sham EA group with special Hua Tuo brand 1 inch blunt of scalp acupunctured Guan Yuan side,side of the Zi Gong, Tian Shu side double, San Yin Jiao next two non points, blunt tip needle pierce through the fixed pad reaches the surface of the skin, uniform lifting thrusting and twirling all 3 times but not puncture the skin, then connect the electric acupuncture apparatus special power line electrode in double side Tianshu side and side of the uterus on the needle handle. The rest were similar to the EA group. These two groups’ hormone levels and MRS scale index change were observed in zeroth weeks, fourth weeks, eighth weeks and twentieth weeks.Results 1. The comparison results of MRS score between two groups showed: the index of the EA were in fourth weeks, eighth weeks, twentieth weeks and thirty-second weeks was significantly lower after treatment respectively. The statistical difference(P<0.01) shows that after 4 weeks of treatment, the related symptoms in patients of menopausal transition were improved and the effect could last the thirty-second weeks after treatment. Compared with pre-treatment, the score of index in comfort group exists statistical difference(P<0.05) and meanwhile their symptoms were improved. But the index increased after 4 weeks. It showed that the consolation has certain effect on the sham EA group, but it lasted a shorter period of time. There was a significant difference in the comparison between the two groups(P<0.05).The electroacupuncture group were superior to the comfort acupuncture group in any tested time.2. The comparison of Hot Flash in two groups showed: Hot Flash of electroacupuncture groups decreased significantly at eighth weeks, twentieth weeks and thirty-second weeks after treatment. There were statistical significance(P<0.05). Compared with pre-treatment, hot flash of the comfort group has significant differences(P<0.05) after the fourth weeks. Electro acupuncture treatment can obviously improve the patients’ hot flashes after 8 to 32 weeks. The symptoms of sham EA group had an improvement in the fourth weeks but the integral rose after the fourth weeks. It showed that the consolation has definite effect in treating, but comfort time lasted a shorter period of time. There was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05). It showed that electro acupuncture group was superior to the sham EA group in the symptoms of hot flashes with PMS.3. The comparison of sex hormone in two groups showed : there was no statistical significance(P>0.05) between and within groups comparison.Conclusion 1 EA treatment can obviously improve the related symptoms in patients with menopausal transition period, and long-term effect is stable.2 EA treatment can obviously improve the menopausal transition related symptoms of the patients, but the adjustment effect on sex hormone level is not obvious.3 The EA treatment and the clinical efficacy was positively related. The sham EA treatment was negatively correlated with the clinical efficacy. It is not the comfortable effect but the acupunctural one that relieve the symptoms of menopause transition.
