Clinical Observation Of Wengjing Tongluo External Lotion In The Treatment Of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

ObjectivesThrough observing the clinical practice of Wengjing Tongluo external lotion in treating patients of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) belong to the cold-dampness and blood-stasis syndrome, to foud out the clincal effect of this therapy on Traditional Chinese Medical(TCM) syndrome, Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) physical examinations grade and Ankle-brachial Index (ABI), and evaluate its security. And then explore the mechanism preliminarily to provide objective foundations for using external lotion of TCM dialectically to treat DPN in clinical practice.Methods70 patients of DPN belong to the cold-dampness and blood-stasis syndrome were selected and divided into treatment group and control group, each with 35 patients. Two groups were all given conventional diabetic therapy, and then the control group was given oral mecobalamin tablets with 0.5mg/time,3 times/day, and the treatment group was given Wengjing Tongluo external lotion for footing massage with 30 minutes/time,1 time/day. The total course of the two groups were 2 months. To observe the changes of the patients of DPN on TCM syndrome score, MNSI physical examinations grade, ABI index and record adverse reaction before and after treating. And then proceed relevant statistics analysis.Results(1) TCM syndrome score:After the treatment, the clinical symptoms of both groups were all improved, the total effective rate was 87.88% in treatment group and 65.23% in control group, which showed statistical difference (P<0.05). The levels of the TCM syndrome total score and each score were lower after treatment in both groups (P<0.01), moreover the levels of the TCM syndrome total score and the pain, numbness, chill, paresthesia of limbs score in treatment group all fell faster than control group (P<0.05), and all showed statistical difference. The systemic symptom of both groups showed no significant difference (P>0.05), but the mean levels of systemic symptom score in treatment group fell more than that in control group. (2) MNSI physical examinations grade:The levels of the MNSI physical examinations grade were lower after treatment in both groups (P<0.01),moreover treatment group fell faster than control group (P<0.05), and all showed statistical difference. (3) ABI index: The levels of the ABI index were higher after treatment in both group (P<0.01), moreover treatment group rose faster than control group(P<0.01), and all showed statistical difference. (4) Security analysis:Before and after the treatment, the results of all participants’security indices showed no obvious abnormalities. There was no obvious adverse reaction, such as skin allergy, severe hepatic and renal dysfunction, aggravate or cause cardia-cerebrovascular disease, and so on during the treatment course with satisfactory safety.Conclus ionThe therapy of Wengjing Tongluo external lotion can obviously improve the clinical symptoms, such as the pain, the numbness,the chill, other paresthesia of limbs and so on among the patients of DPN belong to the cold-dampness and blood-stasis syndrome, and it also can obviously improve the clinical signs and the blood circulation in lower limbs. It ensures safety without obvious adverse reaction, so it deserves to be explored and used further in clinical practice.
