Objectives This paper aims to see the current utilization situation of the healthmanagement service for elderly in communities, and analyze the reasons and major factorsthat hinders the elderly to use the community health management service by field surveyand in-depth interviews. Base on the affecting factors, the paper proposes policysuggestions to encourage the elderly to use the health management service so that theelderly can fully enjoy the public health services.Methods The research chose the communities in Kaiping District of Tangshan City,north China’s Hebei Province, as the study site, and randomly sampled320seniors of65years old or above from these communities. With a self-madeQuestionnaire Form on Urban Community Elderly Health Management Service UtilizationSituation, the author went to the communities to collect data by face-to-face interviews.The questions included the demographic characteristic, health status of the respondents,their use of the health management service, and degree of satisfaction about the healthservice center in their own communities. The author established a data base with Epidata3.0, and double input the collected data to ensure the reliability. The software SPSS13.0was used for analysis. Analyzing methods included descriptive analysis, variance analysis,correlation analysis and logistic regression analysis.Results1The high prevalence of chronic diseases in community of KaiPingDistrict,TangShan about elderly people,but in the number of chronic disease managementis relatively less,the elderly health management service rate is higher,but one of thecontents of the effect of health education among them was not obvious.2Age, literacyand marital status are all the affecting factors. The older of the age, the worse of the usingeffect, and the higher of the literacy, the better of the effect. The married elderly used thehealth management service better than the unmarried, divorced or widowed. In addition,the alone-living elderly used less the service than those who live with their spouses andchildren.3the most satisfied to the elderly is the convenience of seeing doctors in thecommunity health service center, while the doctor’s expertise and the medical environmentare dissatisfied. The doctor’s low expertise severely restricts the elderly in adopting thehealth management service.4Distrust is the direct reason why the elderly refuse to use thecommunity health service, and the lack of the expected programs is one of the important affecting factors.Conclusions1The healthy of the elderly is not optimistic, and has a high prevalence ofchronic diseases;Higher utilization of health management services for the elderly, butneeds to be further improved.2Influencing factors of health management services byelderly people have a lot of, among them the most important is to the community healthservice center of the confidence level is not high, provided by the community andhospital referral link is not satisfactory, service project is not perfect, the elderly ofmarital status and living conditions.3The community health service center shouldstrengthen the health education for the elderly and health guidance, increase the healthmanagement project of elderly people in urgent need of establishment, and the two-wayreferral system in large hospital, further strengthen the management of chronic diseasesthe elderly widows and orphans, elderly people living alone attention.
