Objective:The aim of this study was to analyse the treatment effect of sugery and the clinical features and to identify factors that influence survival by collecting the clinical data of primary duodenal adenocarcinoma (PDA) patients which had been underwent resection, which would contribute to improving diagnosis and prognosis of this disease. Methods:The authors reviewed the medical records of30patients treated for PDA which had been resected from July2002to July2012, and these tumor feature had been diagnosed by histopathology. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate the prognostic factors survival time after resection. Results:Overall, the3-and5-year survival rates were55.2%and44.2%, respectively. Survival was significantly higher for patients who underwent curative resection (median survival60months;3-and5-year survivals60.7%and48.6%, respectively) than for those who underwent other surgery (median survival26months,3-year survival0%)(P<0.05). Tumor size (P=0.0004), TNM (P=0.014) and operation(P=0.025) had significant negative effects on the survival of patients who underwent resection according to univariate analysis. However, multivariate analysis revealed that Tumor size (P=0.002) and operation (P=0.042) were significantly associated with survival. Conclusion:The resectability of PDA was associated with increased survival, and Tumor size. TNM and operation were found to be associated with survival of patients with PDA. Findings indicate that an aggressive surgical approach should be pursued, improving the survival rate.
