ObjectivesTo investigate the status of vocational delay of gratification of nurses from gradeIII hospitals, to analyze its influent factors,and to explore the correlations amongthem so as to provide the references for improving the level of nurses’ vocationaldelay of gratification and the management of nursing.MethodsA total of952nurses in two hospitals of Hunan province were recruited byconvenience sampling method, and investigated with the Vocational Delay ofGratification Questionnaire (VDOGQ), Achievement Motivation Scale (AMS),Organizational Climate Questionnaire, and Psychological Capital Questionnaire-R(PCQ-R).The status of vocational delay of gratification, achievement motivation,psychological capital, organizational climate were investigated and the correlationsamong them were explored.952questionnaires were distributed and withdrawn857valid questionnaires finally, the effective recovery ratio was90.02%.The data ofquestionnaires were analyzed by SPSS13.0, statistical methods included descriptiveanalysis, t test, F test and correlation analysis. Factors models of vocational delay ofgratification were built by AMOS17.0.Results1. The mean score of nurses’ vocational delay of gratification was22.61±2.91;among them the score of occupation career delay of gratification (11.55±1.73) washigher than that of work delay of gratification (11.06±1.64). The mean score ofnurses’ psychological capital was50.05±8.28, the scores of the four dimensions ofpsychological capital were ranked from high to low as following–self-efficacy(13.14±2.26),optimistic(12.93±2.90),resilience(12.16±2.59),hope(11.81±2.50).Themean score of nursing achievement motivation was3.87±6.17, the mean score ofmotivation of pursuing success(37.99±6.45) was higher than that of motivation ofavoiding failure (34.12±3.87).The mean score of organizational climate was 106.87±18.54, the scores of6dimensions of psychological capital were ranked fromhigh to low were as this-team behavior, quality control, management support,evidence-based nursing support, human resources management and adequateresources.2. There were significantly statistical difference for the scores of vocationaldelay of gratification among different nurses’ age, tenure,marital status, educationallevel, professional title,and total monthly income(P<0.05).3.There was positive correlation among vocational delay of gratification,psychological capital, achievement motivation, motivation of pursuing success, andorganizational climate. There was positive correlation among psychological capital,achievement motivation, motivation of pursuing success and organizational climate.There was negative correlation between psychological capital and the motivation ofavoiding failure. There was positive correlation between the motivation of avoidingfailure and work delay of gratification, there was negative correlation between themotivation of avoiding failure and occupation career delay of gratification. There waspositive correlation among the organizational climate, achievement motivation, andmotivation of pursuing success, there was negative correlation between organizationalclimate and the motivation of avoiding failure.4.Vocational delay of gratification could be affected directly by psychologicalcapital,achievement motivation and organizational climate.Effect of psychologicalcapital in the three factors was the greatest,47%of the variance for nurses’ vocationaldelay of gratification could be forecasted by the three factors. Achievementmotivation, organizational climate had played incompletely mediating role in the paththat psychological capital affected vocational delay of gratification, achievementmotivation had played incompletely mediating role in the path that organizationalclimate affected vocational delay of gratification.Conclusion1. The nurses’ vocational delay of gratification, psychological capital andorganizational climate were at an over medium level. And achievement motivationwas at a medium level. 2.Variable factors effecting delay of gratification were demographic variables asage, tenure, marital status, educational level, professional title, and total monthlyincome,and, psychological capital, organizational climate and achievement motivationcould affect vocational delay of gratification directly, achievementmotivation, organizational climate had played not completely mediating role in thepath that psychological capital affected vocational delay of gratification.
