Object:to study the psychosocial factors in patient with chronic hand eczema。Method:(1)240patients with chronic hand eczema (CHE) and221subjects in normal controls (NC) group were tested by General Questionnaire, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), The Symptom Checklist (SCL-90), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Self-Rating Anxiety (SAS), Eczema Quality Of Life Scale (EQOLS) to evaluate the personality traits, mental health, emotional state, quality of life.Results:(1) Comparison of EPQ scores:patients with CHE scored significantly lower than NC subjects on Extraversion (E) factor, but significantly higher on Neuroticism (N) factor. While there was no significant difference of scores on Psychoticism (P) and Social Desirability or Lie Scale (L) factors between two groups.(2) Comparison of SCL-90scores:Compared with the normal, Patients with CHE had statistically significantly higher scores in scale Somatization, Interpersonal sensitivity, Depression, Anxiety, Additional items, Total scores, General symptomatic Index and Positive symptom distress level of SCL-90.(3) Comparison of SDS and SAS scores:Compared with the normal, Patients with CHE had statistically significantly higher scores in SDS and SAS.(4) Comparison of EQOLS scores:Compared with the normal, Patients with CHE had statistically significantly higher scores in scale Morbid, Physical, Social, Psychological, General QOL and Total scores of EQOLS. (5) Pearson Analysis:The level of skin lesions was significantly correlated with scores in scale N, P, L of EPQ; Somatization, Interpersonal sensitivity, Depression, Anxiety, Psychotic factors, Additional items, Total scores, General symptomatic Index of SCL-90; SDS; SAS; Morbid, Physical, Social, Psychological, General QOL and Total scores of EQOLS. The degree of itch was significantly correlated with scores Somatization, Interpersonal sensitivity, Depression, Anxiety, Psychotic factors, Additional items, Total scores, General symptomatic Index of SCL-90; SDS; SAS; Morbid, Physical, Social, Psychological, General QOL and Total scores of EQOLS. Stepwise regression analysis: Depression, Anxiety, Psychotic factors, Gender and Age was risk factors of skin lesions. Anxiety, Interpersonal sensitivity, General QOL was risk factors of itch.Conclusion:(1) Personality of patients with chronic hand eczema is prone to introverts emotional instability;(2) There was a lower level of mental health in patients with chronic hand eczema;(3) There was a higher level of depression and anxiety;(4) There was a negative effect of chronic hand eczema on patients’life quality;(5) Depression, Anxiety, Psychotic factors, Gender and Age was risk factors of skin lesions. Anxiety, Interpersonal sensitivity, General QOL was risk factors of itch.
