ObjectiveClinical efficiency of acupuncture in chronicle facial paralysis was affirmative, based on that finding, this study try to find out a more efficient and faster method to improve the clinical efficiency.MethodsSixty appropriate patients is divided into two group randomly with each group thirty patients. Experimental group treat with temple four penetrated needling associate with face muscle training, taking points on lower three over five and lower four over five of scalp motor area towards xuanli and lower three over five and lower four over five of scalp sensory area towards qubin; then start training face muscle including raising eyebrow, closing eyes, wrinkle nose, exposing tooth and pouting;lastly, insert fine needle into fengchi, yifeng, yangbai, taiyang, xiaguan, dicang, jieche, sibai, quanliao and hegu. Control group treat with conventional needling which needling point same as experimental group except scalp needling. The difference before and after treatment is distinguished by House-Brackmann (H-B) score, facial nerve F test (latency and time taken), SAS and SDS to find if there is any statically difference.ResultsPatients’conditions before treatment show statically identical by t-test. Thirty patients in experimental group got5cure,14with conspicuous effect,9improved and2with no effect after eight weeks’treatment, total effective rate is93.33%; thirty patients in control group got3cure,6with conspicuous effect,14improved and7with no effect after eight weeks’treatment, total effective rate is76.67%. Compared two group with rank test, Zc=2.507>to.05,∞=1.96, P<0.05, there is significant difference between two groups. The facial nerve F test before treatment of both experimental and control groups show statically identical by t-test, data between two groups show significant difference after eight weeks treatment (P<0.05) by t-test; both groups show significant difference before and after treatment (P<0.05) by t-test.SAS and SDS before treatment of both experimental and control groups show statically identical by t-test, data between the two groups show significant difference after eight weeks treatment (P<0.05) by t-test; both groups show significant difference before and after treatment (P<0.05) by t-test. ConclusionAcupuncture is one of the most effective ways to treat chronicle facial paralysis. Temple four penetrated needling can stimulate the reflex zone controlling opposite size facial movement of pallium, that is precentral gryus lower two over five, to stimulate nerve recovery; face muscle training can reduce muscle convulsion and train patients active movement, conventional needling is used according to the meridian and collateral theory to unblock the facial meridian and harmonize qi and blood in order to nourish face muscle and hence improve symptoms. In conclusion it is an effective and simple needling method which should be promoted in clinical practices.
