Case Report Of The Analysis And Application Of The Old Denture In Complete Denture Restoration

Background: With the accelerated aging of China’s population, there is a gradual increasein edentulous patients. In order to improve the quality of life of older people, to ensure theirphysical and mental health, a pair of full feature dentures is very important. Patients withdenture repair are mostly elderly, many suffering from osteoporosis. Thus with wearingdentures for an extended time, the alveolar bone experiences deterioration resulting innarrowing and flattening, maxillary atrophy, or even lead to deformation, thereby affectingthe denture retention and stability. And occlusal surface wear, artificial teeth defect,discoloration, can also affect the patient’s appearance and psychology. In clinical work,most patients with denture repair are based on such reasons for complaint treatment. Andthese patient’s old denture are like the patient’s personalized "oral archive", which you canget a lot of useful reference informations for denture remanufacture.Purpose: Explore the application value of the old denture in clinical complete denturerestoration, and make it play the clinical significance in clinical work.Method: Selected6complete denture repair cases from March2013to March2014in theAffiliated Stomatology Hospital of Dalian Medical University. By history taking andexamination of the patient’s old dentures, we can take full advantage of the repair issues that need attention, then develop treatment plan to complete denture restoration. The repairis completed by the clinical questionnaire of patients satisfaction survey.Result: Survey results show that the new dentures which made reference to the old denturehave significant improvement in all aspects of retention, stability, comfort, aesthetics andchewing efficiency compared with the old denture. As the object of study, all6patients hadno obvious foreign body sensation when first wearing dentures, they all showed goodadaptability, subjective patient satisfaction is high.Conclusion: During the restoration of complete denture, clinicians should not ignore theanalysis and application of the old dentures, need a combination of patient’s chiefcomplaints, oral examination and inspection of the old dentures, to formulate the reasonabletreatment plan, and then when making new pay attention to keeping the reasonable designof old denture, corrected and improved the old denture problems and deficiencies, so thatthe denture can be made to restore oral function and easy to be accepted and adapted bypatients, improve the clinical restoration effect.
