Objective:To evaluate the safety and recent clinical efficacy of the arthroscopic excisionpopliteal cyst. Methods:From January2012to December2013,46cases of clinical data with poplitealcyst were treated by arthroscopic excision in The First Affiliated Hospital ofNanchang University. There were6cases of primary popliteal cyst and40cases ofsecondary popliteal cyst. All of the cases accepted MRI to make a definite diagnosis. We treated the primary popliteal cyst by inserting the arthroscopy in the cyst andexcising the capsule directly in extra-articular, afterwards pressurized the incision for2weeks at postoperative. And we treated the secondary popliteal cyst by usingintra-articular arthroscopic excising the capsule and treatment of the intra-articularprotopathy. All cases were assessed by Lysholm Knee Function Score、 Rauschningand Lindgren popliteal cyst classification at preoperative. Observed complications ofthe intra-articular hematoma, incision and intra-articular infection, nerval andvascular injury and the knee stiffness at postoperative. The postoperative clinicalefficacy was evaluated by using Lysholm Knee Function Score、Rauschning andLindgren popliteal cyst classification at the final follow-up.Results:All cases of the surgical were successful. There`s no incision,intra-articularinfections, nerval and vascular injury, intra-articular hematoma, knee stiffness andother complication happened in all cases. All cases didn`t relapsed during ourfollow-ups. All cases access to effective follow-up, patients were followed up for2to12months, the average (5.15±2.67) months. The Lysholm Knee Function Score atpreoperative and final follow-up were (46.09±14.69) points and (84.54±9.28)points. The scores at final follow-up was elevated significantly thanpreoperative(Z=-5.906,P<0.01). The Rauschning and Lindgren popliteal cyst classification when preoperative and final follow-up were0cases of class0,2casesof class I,15cases of class II,29cases of class III and20cases of class0,18cases ofclass I,8cases of class II,0cases of class III. The number of patients at Class I levelwas significantly more than it at preoperatively in the same level, above of Class Ilevel ratio was82.61%(38/46). The difference was statistically significant (χ2=50.22,P<0.01).Conclusion:Arthroscopic treatment of popliteal cyst is a safe and effective operation.
