Military medical education in the PLA took important place both in Chinesecommunist revolution period from1927to1949and in history of education in modernChina. The great cause initiated in the revolutionary years and developed into three stages. The pioneering stage was from1927to1937which saw the recruitment of medical staffand the founding of training schools in red army as well as collecting all kinds of materialsneeded for the work. At the same time, different training courses based on the urgent needsof battlefront were provided for trainees. During the8years of Anti-Japanese War stage inWorld WAR Ⅱ, the military medical education upheld the principles of focusing on urgentneeds of war and battlefronts as well as soldiers and civilians who contributed all theirefforts to the motherland while all works were proceeded from reality. This stage saw thebooming of all kinds of materials needed for the medical education as well as the diversityof teaching methods applied in the training programs which claimed most of the effectiveways of teaching with great achievements that are still provide inspirations for the fieldtoday. The War of Liberation from1946to1949saw the mushrooming of training schoolsand research institutes at different levels which leads to a mature system of militarymedical education in the PLA. It was based on reality and needs of battlefronts that training schools were founded while training programs were designed and provided.During this period, the training was aimed at meeting the need for qualified doctors andnurses in PLA troops all over China, particularly the urgent needs from battlefronts wherethe PLA troops fought with the nationalist forces, therefore, the demand-oriented modelnot only gave push to the rapid development of medical education system of PLA but alsomade contributions to the final defeat of the Nationalist Party in mainland China. Byanalyzing the history of military medical education in the army of PLA during these3different stages, the study sums up experience and lessons which are still beneficial fortoday’s work in the field.
