Object: To investigate the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea hypopneasyndrome(0SAHS),depression and the correlation between them among the studentsin the universities in Fuzhou, therefore to provide epidemiological data for preventionand treatment of the diseases, and establishing a database for prospective study..Method: A total of5500students were derived from a random and cluster samplingof the population in8universities in Fuzhou;326students with snoring≥3degree and108students with snoring≥2degree were randomly selected to undergopolysomnography. The prevalence of the OSAHS and depression was estimated andthe relationship of these two morbidity was analyzed.Result:5392subjects(98.04%) responded, validated questionnaires were obtainedfrom5346subjects(effective power97.2%); Of whom subjects had habitual snoring.The estimated prevalence of OSAHS defined by apnea-hypopnea index(AHI)≥5andEpworth sleepiness scale (ESS)≥9was8.01%; The incidence of OSAHS mergedepression was6.48%,4.34%of men, women accounted for2.14%; Regressionanalysis showed that total scores of PSQI, positive coping, negative coping, use ofsleep medication, sleep efficiency is associated with depression.Conclusion: The estimated prevalence of snoring, OSAHS and depression was highamong the students in Fuzhou, which seriously harm the health of the students bothphysically and mentally. It is expected to reduce the prevalence of OSAHS,depression and harms by means of exercising, weight reduction, rectifying theabnormality of the upper airway and so on.
