Study On The Introduction Cultivation Of The Pitaya In Greenhouse Of Beijing Area

Pitaya is a tropical plant of Hylocereus undatus or Seleniereus Meja-lantous of cactceae, and was introduced and planted in the south area of China the last centry. Its fruit has unique flavor and rich nutrition, and well received by the general consumers. In this study we introduce the pitaya from tropical area and cultivate it into Beijing area, and obtained the following results:1. Is is found during the survey that the minimum ttemperature of solar greenhouse in Beijing is 7.4 ℃, while it is 5 ℃ in Shenzhen. As such, the greenhouse environment in Beijing area can meet the requirements of the growth of pitaya.2. Using fleshy stems as the bottom of the cuttings, survival rates of the cuttings of 20 cm and the 15 cm length were 66.7% and 86.7% respectively; whereas using lignified internode as cuttings, the survival rate of the cuttings of above 15 cm length was 100%. These results indicate that the lignification internode is suitable as cuttings. If fleshy stems are used as cuttings, appropriate length of cuttings should be 20 cm.3. Through pollen cross-pollination study with three varieties, it is found that the ordinary white pitaya has 100% fruit rate in both cross-pollination and self-pollination; the variety Baiguangming can only bear fruit by cross-pollination; the variety Guangminghong has only 70% fruit rate with small single fruit weight by self-pollination. These results indicate that some pitaya variety cannot bear fruit by self-pollination. Therefore, variety selection and assortment are important in planting pitaya in solar greenhouse.4. Among three introduced varieties, Guangminghong has early blooming period, good yield, and up to 920 g single fruit weight.5. The output per 667 m2 of the pitaya in solar greenhouse of Beijing area is more than 3500 kg, which shows that it suitable to plant pitaya in Beijing area.
