In this paper, Berberis caroli Schneid indigenous to Ordos, is testing material. And the test is designed in four irrigation level:150mm,250mm,350mm,450mm and four irrigation cycle:5days,10days,20days,30days. Every one is repeated to deal with third times. Study effects of different irrigation rate and cycle on the growth characteristics of Berberis caroli Schneid s seedlings in the period of May and October, especially height of seeding, leaf area, diameter at ground, moisture content, quantity of leaves, survival ratio, and obtain the following research results:(1) There are different effects on seeding height of Berberis caroli Schneid by dealing different irrigation rate and cycle measures. Seeding height is low regardless of the irrigation cycle when the irrigation rate is150mm. The best growth is under the irrigation rate of250mm and cycle of5days. Irrigation cycle of20days and30days are not suitable for seedlings to grow normally. Although seedlings grow well when the growth environment is350mm and450mm irrigation rate and5days cycle separated, there are no obvious distinction with under250mm,5days.(2) There are different effects on leaf area of Berberis caroli Schneid by dealing different irrigation rate and cycle measures. Leaf area is low regardless of the irrigation cycle when the irrigation rate is150mm. The best growth is under the irrigation rate of250mm and cycle of5days. Irrigation cycle of20days and30days are not suitable for seedlings to grow normally. Although seedlings grow well when the growth environment is350mm and450mm irrigation rate and5days cycle separated., there are no obvious distinction with under250mm,5days. Height of seeding is stable in May to October without phenomena of rising suddenly.(3) Make a difference on ground diameter of Berberis caroli Schneid by dealing different irrigation rate and cycle measures. The seedlings are growing more luxuriantly in5days than others. The growing appearance is most obvious of seedlings when the irrigation rate is250mm. The ground diameter of seedlings grows equally matched in250mm and450mm and grows well as a whole for5days.(4) Dealing different irrigation rate and cycle measures is influential on moisture content of Berberis caroli Schneid. The moisture content is lower in any irrigation cycle when the irrigation rate is150mm. Meanwhile, its low moisture content is in any irrigation level for30days of cycle.(5) There are different effects on moisture leaves’quantity of Berber is caroli Schneid by dealing different irrigation rate and cycle measures. Leaves are in largest quantity in250mm and5days while small amount in350mm,450mm and30days.(6) There are different effects on survival ratio of Berber is caroli Schneid by dealing different irrigation rate and cycle measures. The rate of survive is equivalent high in5days,250mm,350mm,450mm since. On the contract, the lowest is in30days,150mm,250mm,350mm,450mm.
