A Study On The Gao-Chi Arts For Master Carpenter Wang Shi-Meng In The Group Xi-Di Of Quanzhou

The wooden structure of the traditional architecture in south of Fujian is regardedas the basis of building design. Traditional craftsmen consider not only the productionof building components and assembly, but also taking into account Ji-xion size, constructional taboo and aesthetic concepts. All these three-dimensional spatial t houghts are presented on a two-dimensional bamboo pole called Gao-chi which conv ey the important information of traditional architecture in south of Fujian. And throug h that the ruler of Gao-chi develops different craftsman sect and personal styles. As the representative of master carpenter in south of Fujian, Xi-di sect has an important impact on Taiwan and Southeast Asia. The article can be divided into 3 parts:1. The role of Gao-chi in Chinese traditional architecture.(1)master carpenter used a designing tool which can help him draft the wooden structure-Gao-Chi-in order to process detail design.(2)using this tool to fang-yang,measure and proofread in the construction stage.(3)the old architecture which is needed to be repaired is modified using this tool.2.
