At present, as a traditional agricultural country, China is gradually moving towards to a new stage of urban society. According to the population data of National Bureau of Statistics in the latest ten years, there are at least 10 million of the rural population in our country every year transferring to cities and towns to become urban residents. Also according to this trend and in the future, China’s rural population will become urban population continuously, randomly, and massively. And this means that in China’s vast rural areas, each year there will be tens of thousands of courtyards gradually losing their original roles. The empty and waste of rural courtyards has become more and more serious, how to deal with the rural living environment in the process of the development, how to adapt to the transformation of the rural living environment, and where to go have become a difficult problem. This paper studies the rural living environment in loess gully area. Due to the natural and ecological environment characteristics that the region is at the hinterland, soil erosion is serious, ecological environment is fragile and also the long history of agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry, high intensity of land use, single industrial structure, low social and economic benefits, the paper focuses on the decline of the number of villages, the outflow of dominant population, inefficient use of resources, disorder of the village planning, degradation of houses and a series of problems in urbanization process, does an analysis about these reasons, with the integration of "production, life, ecology" as the starting point, and proposes the village ecological degradation mode and countermeasures in loess gully area, to explore valuable and suitable transformation strategies and methods about living space and public space in loess gully area. This paper mainly includes three parts:Firstly, from three aspects of the agricultural production system, building living system and natural ecological system, combining the overall social economy development in loess gully area at present, and grasping the current characteristics, cognitive rules and existing problems of loess gully area, this paper clearly points out that the decrease of agricultural economy benefit and collapsing of population are main causes for the village living environment degradation, resulting in the imbalance in the village of the agricultural production system, building living system and natural ecological system. Also, this paper does a deep analysis on the main types of villages. Through the current construction and the confusion of "plateau planar" village and "gully slope" village, the paper sums up that the "plateau planar" village construction is disorder and dispersed, and "gully slope" village gradually become empty due to relocation.Secondly, from the theoretical level of interdisciplinary and multi-angle, the paper analyses the reasons for the degradation of the village living environment in loess gully area. Summarizing the degradation rules of two different types of villages under the limitation of many policies in loess gully area, based on the principle of symbiosis and "3R", the paper proposes the fundamental theory about two villages ecological degradation, attempting to explore villages wasting resource reused mode. Among them, the core points is that, on the one hand, on the basis of new integration of production, life, ecology, the ecological degradation countermeasures about residential population and agriculture modernization are proposed; on the other hand, the building system of ecological degradation model in loess gully area and the quantitative indicators and reforming ways of empty architectural space are proposed. Finally, this paper taking typical living and public space of the "plateau planar" and "gully slope " village as the research object, proposes the ecological degradation modes of the patron abandoned kiln, independent discarded kiln, historical space and public space, in order to achieve an empirical study of ecological degradation patterns and countermeasures in loess gully area, during the transition period to provide an effective suitable way for the healthy development of the whole village in loess gully area.
