Research On The Surface Ecological Design Of Public Building Skin In Cold Regions

A public building is often seen as a landmark of a city and draws people’s widespread attention due to its characteristics such as large space, big volume and high visitors flowrate. But with the continuous deterioration of the global environment, the problem of high energy consumption in pubic buildings has been exposed to light.This paper discusses the development characteristics of public building skin from a perspective of ecology, and then explores a sustainable development suitable for the public building skin in cold regions based on the energy consumption of public buildings as well as the construction technology and design theory of building skin by analyzing the external environmental features of cold regions, such as weather and relief. Theory is combined with practical cases in the paper for a systematic description of the design strategy, design theory and construction technology of ecological building skin as well as the adoption of materials, for a full expression of the significance of ecological building skin design.This paper spreads out exposition gradually in the following three parts:The first part poses a problem. It first discusses the historical and discipline background of this research topic, points out the significance of ecology to architectural design and social humanity, and affirms that in the context of global ecological development,the value of ecology. Based on that, a core research question is raised: what design theory and construction technology should be used for the public building skin in cold regions to reduce the energy consumption and improve indoor and outdoor environmental quality to meet the ecological requirements? Finally, an analysis is made on the domestic and international researchachievements related to this topic, as well as the feasibility and necessity of continuing exploration based on the existing researches.The second part analyzes the problem. This part reaches a conclusion on the ecological use of technology in building skin based on a theoretical research of relevant concepts, and develops a strategy and principle for the ecological design of building skin in cold regions according to a preliminary analysis of cold regions. Certain theoretical support is provided for the follow-up development of the paper.The third part solves the problem. Through a research on the ecological use of a single skin and multi-layered skins, and based on examples of domestic and foreign excellent buildings, this part arrives at a conclusion on architects’ selection of materials, philosophy of design and expression of feelings for building skin design. Finally, this part carries out a further research based on a case study of Taiyuan South Railway Station, and points out the feasibility and necessity of developing ecological public building skin in China.
