The ro-ro ship is also called " roll on / roll off ships, it is dedicated to the ship carrying goods by freight vehicles, the ro-ro ship usually use to carry general cargo, cars or passengers.Hainan Xinhai Ferry Terminal is designed for the vehicles and passengers who across the Qiongzhou Strait. Aims to separate passengers and vehicles, passengers need to be unloaded when the vehicles get into the yard. The vehicles get on the boat through springboard which is on the straight back of the boat, and the passengers through a bridge connect between the passenger terminal on yard and the cabin. Most of the ferry boat is 10,000 GT, the degree of boat is out of the Chinese stander allow to use a design which the boat and the quay are vertical when berth like a T. Also, we add a structure across the boat to support the passengers bridge, it`s just an auxiliary platform between mooring platform and support platform. There is none stander can support this design of ferry terminal.Based on the research of length, layout, spacing, and working conditions of auxiliary platform, summarized the movement of T berthed boat in the specific conditions of wave and stream. Quantitative length of auxiliary platform, put forward the method of general layout.< The overall design specification>(JTS165-2013) recommended to use the movement of boat to determine the allowable conditions in working conditions. A large number of studies have been done in ship berthing model test and ship movement calculations. Ship model tests is use in optimization of general layout, and ship movement is guide design successful.During preparation of this paper, I have reviewed the relevant literatures and understood the recent progress of the subject of this paper. In literatures I found no support for the layout intended to be studied in this paper. The paper proposes 4 different layout plans based on site condition and through numerical calculation and simulation, verified that when the length of continuous berth mole is less than the length of ship “L”, as the mole is narrow and the roll-on/roll-off ship is high and the bearing condition of breast lines are poor, the main forces to the ship are on the bow and stern lines. Such condition is very close to T-type mooring scheme. Under such layout condition, the calculated motion quantity of the ship meets the requirement of safe berthing. And through cooperation with others, simulation experiment on ship berthing was conducted to show that under current standards, the layout can meet the specified speed limits of ship’s lateral berthing under a 8th-scale gale. The Xinhai ferry terminal project this paper relies on has been carried out and on trial berthing during the spring festival of 2016. Front mooring and T berth ware well used. Vertical mooring in a bad condition, elevation of more than 60 degrees. Berth and leave is normal, all structures are in a good condition. After demonstration, find out the current specification requirements of T berth which more than 3000 GT should not be used is conservative. Verification of theory find out 10 000 GT Ro-Ro ship can still berth as T type. The jetty only as auxiliary platform for passenger’s use. Based on the research above, the result can be use in the specification revise.
