On Diversified Layout Of “Design Hotel”

With economic globalization and increasing fierce competition within international hotel industry, market of star-rated hotel is at capacity comparatively and experiencing serious homogenization, which attaches more and more attention on “design hotel”. “Design hotel” in mainland of China are mostly not mature due to their rather late start. Thus, taking “design hotel" in Taiwan that have longer developing history can provide helpful references for the same kind hotel in mainland of China.Starting with the conception of design hotels, expounds the historical background and developing situations of “design hotel”, summarizing characteristics of them. Distinctive design styles of “design hotel” bring more visual surprises and they pay more attention on interactivity besides of fundamental infrastructure and equipment. Furthermore, “design hotel” can be classified into three types as in scale, design feature and price. This thesis introduces design characters of the three types with different examples.Taking JJ-W hotel in Tainan County as study subject, this thesis firstly introduces historical development, reform opportunities, positioning and operation status, then explores its design strategy of taking “cultural memory” as the entry point in aspects of architectural design, storey organization, public space and guest room space to summary distinctive characters and design methods of “design hotel”. Moreover, guest room design contains illustration of local history, highlights cultural memory and presents thinking communication and exploration of artists from different fields. Finally, a conclusion of opera bility of this kind of hotel is drawn from local history combing, theme extraction, pictograph and symbolization. “Design hotel” centering on “cultural memory” can offer referential suggestions for developing same kind in mainland of China.As for the interior design field in Chinese mainland, “design hotel” is an innovative type which shall be enhanced by drawing lessons from JJ-W Hotel in Tainan county with design idea of focusing on “cultural memory” and exploring local culture, constructing space compatible with artistic works and establishing own characters. In addition, different regions obtain diversified cultural characters and historical stories. Therefore, Chinese mainland can borrow experience from design thoughts from JJ-W Hotel in Tainan County to construct their own distinctive “design hotel”.
