Homesickness In Mind—A Study On City Memory Of Lanzhou

In recent years, the impact of globalization on city space production has deepened in the process of urbanization, and native characteristics of the city has been weakened gradually, which contribute to the convergence of city image and the plaint of wanderers that home is no longer the place that it used to be. City characteristics have disappeared, leading to the city memory without carriers and difficulties of the continuation of homesickness. Therefore, it has become a problem that must be faced and solved that how to transfer the city memory, protect city characteristics, and remember the homesickness.Against this background, this paper classifies the cognitive subjects of the city memory into persistent cognitive subject, short term cognitive subject, intermittent cognitive subject and heard cognitive subject, makes a study of cognitive objects of the city memory from the two aspects of the physical space elements and historical culture elements, and sums up four basic characteristics of city memory that is regionalism, timeliness, selectivity and publicity. Then, taking Lanzhou as an example, this paper does some research on cognitive objects, cognitive variables system, cognitive levels with its influencing factors, and the cognitive degree of the city memory with a method of empirical research, which come to some conclusions: the overall cognitive level of the city memory of Lanzhou is not very high; main factors affecting the level of the city memory of Lanzhou are five kinds of characteristic variable of age, educational background, residence time, personal experience and recreational entertainment; the cognitive degree of the first order information variable is 0.58, and the cognitive degree of the first order carrier variable is 0.62, and the cognitive degree of the second order variables is higher than 0.6 except former names, protected historic sites and excel ent sculptures. Finally, this paper makes analysis of the intergenerational differences in the city memory of Lanzhou through interviews which comes to the conclusion that the intergenerational transmission is difficult to carry out, and puts forward practicable technique routs for the social transmission of the city memory of Lanzhou from several aspects of city master plans, regulatory plans and sector plans after the comparison of characteristics of city memory and city planning: protecting the natural landscape pattern of Lanzhou from the aspect of city material space and inheriting regional historical culture from the aspect of history and culture through master plans; increasing elements of city memory transmission in terms of indicators for the control of various land use through regulatory plans; promoting the transmission of city memory from aspects of city design and renewal and protection of city heritage and place names through sector plans.
