With the rapid development of modernization, the construction industry is gradually moving towards the direction of globalization and innovation. The design requirements of the modern architecture have outgrown from the basic requirements of safety and economy to energy saving and innovation. The form of modern architecture becomes more and more novel and unique, which makes the design of architectural structure more complicated and difficult. The traditional structure design method, design process and management style of architectural design enterprises have been unable to meet the requirements of modern architectural structure design. The lower work efficiency and substandard design quality as well as other problems are becoming more and more serious. The emergence of BIM technology and its concepts and application models provide people with solutions to these problems and a better management platform.At the beginning of this paper, the research background of this topic, the BIM technology in China and foreign countries, and the development and application status of BIM-based design management were introduced. It was also pointed out that the research on BIM technology and BIM-based design management in China was still in the primary stage, so that the promotion and popularization of BIM technology was faced with many difficulties. In the next part, the design process of traditional architectural structure was introduced. Based on the integration of the annual internal audit and the author’s internship experience, common problems in traditional architectural structure design were summarized, and it was pointed out that the low work efficiency and design quality caused by the limitations of traditional architectural structure design and design process could not meet the requirements of the rapid development of global construction industry. Then based on the characteristics of BIM technology and its advantages in the application of structure design, a BIM-based architectural structure design process was developed, which was also detailed in this paper. Through the comparative analysis, it was concluded that the application of BIM technology in improving the problems in traditional architectural structure design had enhanced the design quality of traditional architectural structure. Besides, the new problems of BIM-based architectural structure design process were also proposed, and the current status of the application of BIM technology in China architectural structure design enterprises was analyzed. Combined with the problems of BIM process, corresponding management countermeasures were proposed from the perspective of the application mode of BIM, the coordination method of BIM, the selection of BIM structure design software, BIM structure design process and corresponding personnel organization structure and responsibility system, the modeling principle and quality management of BIM structure. At the same time, four suggestions were proposed specific to the design quality management of BIM-based architectural design enterprises.Finally, according to the actual situation of BIM application status and the BIM project of D Design and Research Institute, specific structure design process and design quality management methods were developed, for the purpose of providing reference for modern architectural structure design enterprises in the application of BIM technology and the application of BIM technology in project structure design.
