Strategic Planning For Famous Mountainous Scenic Areas In China

There are many famous mountains and beautiful scenic areas in China. With rich resources and a long history, many of them have become valuable world natural and cultural heritages. Since 1980 s, the rapid developments of urban areas lead to different land use conflicts and problems, and especially caused great concerns for planners when the conflicts taken place within newly urbanized lands around the scenic areas.Ever since the ancient times, most scenic areas are located in place having convenient transportation system and favorable living conditions for human settlements. Thus, a large number of human activities increase naturally within and around the scenic area s. As a result, there is more emphasize been put on the development of land and buildin g-g of new infrastructures for tourist purposes. However, the increase in the amount of human activities will become sources of threats to the local natural resources. Finding the balance between human activities and protection of natural resources is desperately needed for a sustainable development of scenic areas.In this paper, the problem of urbanization in scenic areas will be studied using theo-ries of landscape planning. Landscape planning methods will be studied after analyzing the history, the current condition and land use conflicts of scenic areas. By comparing similar and differences amongst study cases from different countries, and applying the Detailed Planning for Scenic Areas and Controlled Planning for Scenic Areas, as wellas contemporary city design theories and practices, a more comprehensive regional design will be made for the Hongmen area at the Taishan Scenic Area.In the end, strategic planning will be researched in mitigating the problem of urbanization in mountainous scenic areas.The Purpose of the study is to research methods of sustainable planning for scenic areas, to seek effective planning methods and strategies for the protection and develop-e nt of the urban areas, and specifically to provide potential solutions for solving related problems in the Taishan Hongmen area.
