| Construction of city wall in China originated in the late Yangshao culture of the Neolithic Age, grew to a peak in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are thousands of city wall with various sizes across the whole country. With such a long history and such a large scale, Chinese city wall is unique all around the world. For all sorts of reasons, city wall suffered severe destruction, or even massive demolition. With the preservative awareness of historic sites enhancing in the modern society, people have been paying more and more attention to the ancient city wall preservation, though problems arise during the practices. This paper firstly investigates the preservation necessity and specific measures of Chinese ancient city wall, taking the city wall of Nanjing from the Ming Dynasty as an example. On the basis of reviewing preservation history, the paper then researches existing problems on city wall relic protection and proposes corresponding implementation strategies. |
