Research On Suzhou Neo-chinese Style Residential Landscape Design Based On The Critical Regionalism

In recent years, with the high-speed economic development in Suzhou, the number of the Neo-Chinese residential landscape is constantly increasing. However, there are still problems in this new residential style, such as meaningless copycat design, lack of innovation, lack of consideration of regional culture. If this persists, the development of Suzhou Neo-Chinese style residential landscape will gradually step into the plight. So, it is a new topic for landscape architect that how to build both Suzhou region characteristic and era characteristic of residential landscape.In this background, this paper will take the theory of the critical regionalism with a dialectical and critical attitude towards traditional and modern, and discuss the Neo-Chinese style residential landscape design strategy in this paper. First, this paper analyses the evolution and characteristics of critical regionalism. And it analyses the concept and types of Neo-Chinese style residential landscape. At the same time, it clarifies the reasons for the rise. It analyses the connection of two theories and sums up the application value of the critical regionalism for Neo-Chinese style residential landscape. These form the theoretical basis for this paper. Secondly, this paper does further survey on 15 typical Neo-Chinese residential landscape cases. Among these cases, it chooses 4 cases to go detailed analysis from shaping the place spirit, methods from the traditional garden, materials and details, and sums up the problems of these cases. Finally based on the Critical regionalism, this paper give some strategies for the Neo-Chinese residential landscape in Suzhou, which includes updating the thinking model, design methods, shaping the place spirit, appropriate technology and materials four aspects.Through this study, we can explore some new ideas of Neo-Chinese style residential landscape. And the study can provide some enlightenments to the Neo-Chinese style residential landscape projects in the future. And the Neo-Chinese style residential landscape will step into the way of the combination of traditional and modern.
