Application Of Vernacular Landscape Elements In Huzhou Olympic Park

" Vernacular " embodies all aspects of people’s life and production. It is not only a complex which coheres the local regional characteristics, but also an objective carrier of the local development and state. By using landscape elements in the modern parks, we are able to preserve the experience of local life and the understanding of regional culture. So that they can be inherited and developed. We need to call the collective memories back, which are disappearing gradually. By summarizing and studying the means of expression of local landscape elements in different cases, the general way and principle of some local landscape elements used in modern parks were obtained. It became the inspiration of the design intent and detailed formal characteristic for these cases. During the process of park design, the excellent cases of expression for vernacular landscape elements were learnt and used. In the end, thought and method were concluded and summarized for combining some designs with regional vernacular landscape elements.The first part-introduction, mainly studied the sprout, development, the development level and trend of vernacular landscape design. Part two studied concepts of " vernacular " and " vernacular landscape ". The third part embodied the process and achievement of practical exploration. First of all, the vernacular resources in Huzhou and their current situation of application in Huzhou rural parks were analyzed. Then the detailed ways of both design strategies and applications of vernacular elements were raised by means of the analysis of geographical and cultural environment of the base. Besides, through detailed designs, these design intents were worked out into detailed landscape methods. In part four, the achievement of research was concluded. It mainly talked about the direction of improvement. Furthermore, the linkage and translation between " vernacular " and " rural" were thought. Through the theoretical and practical exploration, a deeper understanding of the usage of vernacular landscape elements in rural parks was obtained. And the experience would be put to practical use in the further designs.
