The operating maintenance of intelligent substation has large difference with traditional one. The voltage and current values of the transformer are in network packets format now. Moreover, the IEDs in intelligent substation are connected with data network, and communicate each other in IEC61850 protocol. The data in network is invisible for maintainers, which is inconvenience for daily routine work such as operating, maintaining, fault detecting and troubleshooting. This paper discusses the design of the Network packet recording and analysis device, which is used to monitor and record the network communication. From fiber Gigabit Ethernet port speed data processing technology, high-precision synchronization network packets and timestamp data, GOOSE, MMS, SV communication error detection, data extraction and the electrical signal waveform reduction and comprehensive analysis based packet intelligent substation fault prediction methods and other key technical aspect, discussed and analyzed the device hardware design, FPGA logic design, functional design analysis software and other content, and the development and implementation of the device.The intelligent substation network packet recording and analyzing apparatus includes eight Gigabit fiber network recording port, within the substation communication network as well as all the communication process with the dispatch center communication network for packet capture, recording and analysis, with the results of the analytical and recording data on display, statistics, analysis and output functions.
