Study On The Theory And Practice Of Healthcare Private Gardens Design

With the living standards improving in contemporary urbanization process, more and more people pay attention to the physical health. The development of modern science makes domestic and foreign environmental psychology and medicine penetrate into the landscape design, greatly expanding landscape functionality. In addition to visual effects, residents began to focus on the health-care functions of private gardens. As a result, demands for private gardens design are increasing. However, the domestic health-care gardens landscape design started late, the theory of planning and design is not perfect, which making many problems cannot be solved in the actual construction process.In order to provide a theoretical basis for health care garden design, and playing a guiding role in design practices, this research consult the domestic and foreign theory and practice of health-care garden design and application, clearing the concept connotation and extension of private health-care gardens and putting forward the basic characteristics of it. In addition, we conducted a research on typical health-care garden in Shanghai and Auckland, where the health-care garden develops earlier and has a good effect. Using facility visit to collect feeling of users then analyzing from the aspect, like user’s daily health behavior, the impact on their physical and psychological, etc., we concluded a private courtyard design theory and practical experience of the application of health-care functional plant. The reasons for less successful case of private health-care garden can be concluded as below:Firstly, theoretical system is not perfect which result in lacking of consideration for resident physical and psychological need; Secondly, application of health-care function design is single and the binding between actual construction theory and user demand is inadequate; Thirdly, the guide for health-care functional plant application is insufficient. Fourthly, the management of health-care garden is not standardized. At last, lacking of practical experience and regional development is not balanced. Based on the summary of the literature and on-the-spot investigation, this paper studied the application of the functional plant in the private gardens, and introduced the main types of the health-care functional plants. We summarized the concept and characteristics of the private health-care gardens, applied the characteristics and mechanism of health-care functional plants in a garden with different types of spaces, and used evidence-based design idea and fully taking the actual demand of residents into account, in order to pay attention to the occupant’s involvement in the design and construction process, and to maximize idea of "people-oriented" to improve the utility of gardens and to create a harmonious coexistence between human and nature ecological system. Finally, Shanghai Kangqiao Peninsula and TangChenYiPin were used as samples to apply the landscape design into practice, verifying the operability and applicability of the design theory. On the basis of the above summary, we proposed the design theory and methods of health-care private garden, in order to provide reference for promoting the development of health care private gardens.
