Renovation Design Of Local Traditional Construction System In Yuanyang’s Villages

The traditional dwellings of Hani, consisted of four-slope roof and soil walls, as the represent of local heritage, has been inherited and developed for thousands of years, which value and significance is unreplaced. From the perspective of culture, the unique architecture form represents distinct local culture and esthetics, which inspired by nature and reveals Hani’s positive adaptation to nature as well. It blends producing, living into natural environment, and maintain a mutual promoting relationship with nature. In one word, it has essential value to both domestic architecture and culture study of China’s minority.This project is trying to discuss a new renovation mode under actual living conditions, which is enduring, practical and benefiting natural environment. With the example of Hani terrace field in Yuanyang, there is an attempt to bring life to local villages under the premise of maintaining local construction’s overall distinct features. There are two main targets. The first one is about bring economic benefits by bringing new programs in, like hotels and creative stores. The second one is about construction system, including local architecture’s structure, construction techniques, material, and researching new techniques which can preserve and renovate original construction system, and thus revive it.
