Fuzhou local dwellings become a vital component of big local dwellings families with its unique space mode and building sculpt. Taking Cai residence in Fuzhou as research object, in this thesis, the original building before displacement has been studied and acquainted based on existing materials, as well as the building after displacement has been mapped and analyzed. Although the building after displacement does not superior to the original building in some aspects because of the losing of folk craftsmanship, but this action is undoubtedly one of important measures to lengthen the traditional building life and protect the local dwellings effectively. At the same time, through survey and drawing of Cai residence, this article found out the similarities and differences via contrasting Qing Dynasty construction way of building. This article also collected existing Fuzhou local dwellings materials, compared each other, and then discovered individual characters of Cai residence and relevant generality among all local dwellings. Moreover, through analyzing construction form and characteristics of Cai residence, this article explained the building characteristics of local dwellings in the period between the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.
