| This paper explores how the relative gender inclination of product’s elements influences the gender inclination of product. We extended the AHP by using gender inclination and contribution for elements to watch to replace importance for decision-making.Three studies were introduced in this paper. In experiment 1, subjects were asked to finish a questionnaire and a personal interview to study the relative gender inclination of product’s elements. We worked out the weight of each evaluation item, and relative gender inclination for evaluation items by AHP. Then we prepared four options with the same membership values of elements in each one for the validation test. Experiment 2 had a similar process, the aim was to study the gender inclination of material and color of watch. Experiment 3 was a validation experiment based on the gender inclination result of the two previous experiments. The results can be usefully employed during the initial phases of product design when designers feel confused about relative gender inclination of product elements. The extended AHP in this study would provide an objective reference for designers and manufacturers to determine the gender inclination of the product. |
