A Study Of Regional Expression Of Former Residences Of Celebrities In Huai’an District

Urban architectures are becoming increasingly identical under the background of globalization. However, efforts have never been stopped to explore regionalism of architecture, the study of which is a crucial subject in architecture field in recent years. Research on regionalism of architecture, from the perspective of regional culture, traditional architecture space, environment and local materials, etc., has theoretical significance and application value.Located in Huai’an city of Jiangsu province, Huai’an district has profound history and has nurtured a number of celebrities. With variety in combination forms, spiritual architecture space and fine materials, the former residences of celebrities have a style of primitive simplicity, and embody the unique features of the traditional residences.The paper will make a study on the typical former residences of celebrities in Huai’an district and expound the historical development of Huai’an district, the features of typical residences and geographic factors. Through introduction of the celebrities in Huai’an and their former residences, especially mapping of the former residences of Zhou En’lai, Wu Chengen and Liu E, this paper aims to reach a preliminary discussion on regionalism of celebrities’ former residences in Huai’an, which is based on analysis on the phenomenon as well as the techniques of regionalism in architecture.The research will be angled from the aspects of physioclimate, geographic environment, material, architectural form and spatial form to explore possible ways to protect and utilize the former residences of celebrities under the rapid development of urbanization, and furthermore, to contribute to the regionalism theories of modern architecture.The paper will be elaborated in five chapters.Chapter 1: Introduction. Chapter 1 will expound the background the significance of this research, term the key concepts, sort out related studies both home and abroad, and put forward the framework of the research.Chapter 2:Chapter 2 is about the features of traditional residences in Huai’an and its regional factors. Through historical development of Huai’an district and the features of traditional residences, this chapter discusses the inheritance of the cultural value of traditional residences. Besides, the features of the natural and social factors of Huai’an district will also be discussed in this chapter.Chapter 3: analysis on celebrities in Huai’an district, their former residences and regional expression of the residences.This chapter lists a number of celebrities in Huai’an district and their residences. Based on study on typical former residences of celebrities, this chapter aims to explore the regional expression under the influence of natural landform, technique and material as well as spatial form.Chapter 4: protection and utilization of celebrities’ former residences in Huai’an district.On the basis of field research achievements, this chapter digs into the reason of the downfall of celebrities’ former residences, propose principles of protection and utilization and explore possible ways to protect and utilize them based on relevant laws and regulations.Chapter 5: conclusion and prospect. This chapter concludes the whole study, point out the innovation part and forecast follow-up studies.
