Form Analysis Of Settlement And Traditional Residences Of Youwei Village

With long history, profound culture and geographical features, traditional settlement perfectly combines with intangible cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage and widely scatters in various regions of China. Shanxi is one of the largest traditional settlement areas, with30state-level historical and cultural village and town, and101Shanxi province-level historical and cultural village and town.As one of the third batch of historical and cultural towns and one of the nine frontier of Ming Dynasty, Youwei town not only prevented Beiyuan to invade into the central plains of China, but also exchanged with others as a commerce distribution center. Youwei is a defense and a commerce town which has a high research value.As the Object of my study, Youwei town researched by field surveys and theoretical analysis. On the base of historical and cultural background, this paper try to discuss the structure and layout of residential space, form characteristics of the settlement and residences, providing reference materials for the study of techniques and practices of traditional settlements planning in China.On the one hand, the natural environment and cultural environment of Youwei town were summarized, and the background and establishment of history were researched, and the local and folk culture and the sages historical were studied. On the other hand, the spatial form of villages and residential areas were analyzed. On settlement, as a military settlement,"according to local conditions, dangerous system" was thought of first, but as a traditional settlement,"follow the Fengshui, behind the hill towards the water" and "living near the water but avoiding flooding" were considered. Layout patterns and defensive mode were analyzed from "point, line, plane". On residences, first, the architectural style was analyzed, second, the technical and artistic were researched, and at last, the space was studied.At last, based on the analysis of settlement pattern, the paper explores its protection and development, and puts forward the opinion that the reasonable using is effective protection, and points out that how to deal with the relations between the protection and the development, so we must prevent the traveling and commercial overdevelopment. Further more it requires the multiple co-operation modalities and to coordinate the interests of all parties.
