Tonglu Mountain mining area has unique regional character and human environment. From 1960 to 1990, it has developed several distinctive living spaces. However, for some reasons, such as rapid development of the country, the living spaces have got several problems so that more and more people left this place and part of buildings have been abandoned. The situation of this area’s environment becomes more serious. The living space has witnessed the development of the mining area. Furthermore, it absolutely is the very important memories of people who had lived here for hundred years. Therefore, we should reconstruct the living space without destroy the old architecture in the mining area so that we can change the environment to keep the residents. According to three different time periods, this lecture analyses the mining living space and describes scenes of life and spacial current situation.According to these factors, if we do not do anything the situation of this space would be getting worse and people will be leaving. As a result, the mining area will be abandoned. So this is the main reason that we should reconstruct this area. I picked the most serious part in mining area: the 60 s gallery-type single dormitory, to do the reconstruction. At first, I have analyzed this single dormitory. The reconstruction should be economy, reasonable and keep the old building as much as possible. Then, I found which parts should be reconstructed and which parts have problems. After that I have taken the sunlight simulation experiments to confirm the formation of the new building space and the position of windows. According to using new and old materials to perfectly match new and old architecture space. The new design uses the reproducible units to assemble them together and the material is pre-made templates so that we can use these material and units in other cases. From the human activities, I reconstructed the landscape of the single dormitory. Base on the analysis of necessity activities, optional activities and social activities I worked out the way to reconstruct the landscape. The reconstruction of Tonglu Mountain mining area not only solves the current problems of living space but also gives a good example to other residential areas.
