With the rapid development of the economy, the civil construction, highway and municipal engineering constructions have developed rapidly recently. These greatly promote the development of iron and steel industry. Iron ore tailings as a kind of waste products after ore dressing is one of the major industrial solid wastes. Iron ore tailings not only cover huge land and pollute environment, but also give rise to security risks. On the other hand, large amounts of construction materials are depleted by those infrastructure constructions of highway and civil construction. Using some engineering techniques, if the iron ore tailings can be used as construction materials, it will greatly reduce the cost of highway projects, as well as be environmental friendly.Through systematic experiments, some appropriate engineering technology was put forward to improve the technical performance of iron tailings, especially the technical performance of iron ore tailing gravel in this paper. So as to satisfy iron tailings of gravel as a concrete and roadbase construction material performance requirements, then a large number of iron ore tailing gravel can be used in the building construction. These can contribute to save resources and reduce the project cost. The test results show that that the mixture of cement stabilized iron ore tailing gravel has higher strength and modulus, good frost resistance property and water stability. The technical performances of inorganic binder stabilized iron tailing gravel conform to the current specification, so it can be used as sub-base course or base course material. Iron tailing gravel can be used as the coarse aggregate to make concrete material.These research achievements can contribute to pursue the strategic thinking of increasing income and reducing expenditure, solve the problem of energy and environment protection for the rapid development of the construction careers. These research achievements have important economic and social benefits.
