During the esearch vessel’s voyage, waves and splash generate a lot of bubbles near the waterline. The bubbles that flow to the bottom of the fairing of multi-beam echo sounder scatter or even absorb sound waves, which brings adverse effects.Given the problem, the concept of profile design of research vessels is different from traditional carriers. Hull resistance and the number of bubbles are both should be taken into account during the profile design. Resistance performance and anti-bubble performance are the two most important criteria to judge the profile. According to the two criteria, we propose a novel and practical CFD analysis for the profile of the head and the fairing on research vessels. Calculate the real ship resistance by numerical simulation to forecast resistance performance. Forecast anti-bubble performance with the streamline method.This paper use FLUENT as a platform to complete the numerical simulation. The vertical head and the bow head as well as the protruding fairing and the flat fairing are all analyzed with the method this paper proposed.Simulation results show that the resistance of the vertical head has a increment about 4% to 5% compared with the bow head. But its anti-bubble performance is better than the bow head. The resistance of the protruding fairing has a increment about 10% to 11% compared with the flat fairing. But its anti-bubble performance is better than But its anti-bubble performance is better than the flat fairing. To better express the performance of anti-bubble performance of the fairing, this paper also proposed the concept of safe streamline and safe draft. The ship model test was also carried out. A comparison of numerical and experimental results shows a fair agreement, indicating the practicability of the analytical method.
